Scotland is a pretty diverse place. Each area, and even each town, can have its own accents, traditions and celebrations. One Festival that catches my attention every year is a carnival of fire and, well, partying it seems, in Shetland called ‘Up Helly Aa’.
Last night, hundreds of torch-bearers parade through the streets of Lerwick (the main town in Lerwick), before burning a replica Viking galley.
It is the biggest procession of its kind in Europe and celebrates the islands’ Viking heritage.
Check out these pics – looks excellent!
