Celtic Connections

Last night, I shimmied across the country to Glasgow post-work to catch my first show of this year’s Celtic Connections Festival. Celtic Connections started in Glasgow in 1994 and has since been held every January. It’s a three week Festival made up of over 300 concerts, ceilidhs, talks, free events, late night sessions and workshops, and focuses on the roots of traditional Scottish music. It also features international folk, roots and world music artists. Highlights this year include Laura Marling and an Mexrissey – a Mexican Morrissey inspired ensemble.

I went to see/hear BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show recorded live. Hosted by BBC stalwart Mark Radcliffe, it was an hour of pure musical joy. I sneakily snapped this pic of Olivia Newton-John, Beth Neilson Chapman and Amy Sky performing three songs off their new album. A magnificent evening.

For those in the UK, you can see their performance here on BBC iPlayer – http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04qpw1l
